T.O. should make Bills better, but not by much

AFC East foes can relax — WRs rarely swing balance of power in a division

Q: Hey Dan, who’s going to sign Marvin Harrison?
— Craig Roberts, Rochester, N.Y.

A: You have to understand a few things about Marvin Harrison. He is 36 years old. His production has dropped precipitously in the last two seasons — despite playing in one of the most prolific passing offenses in the NFL and being thrown to by one of the greatest quarterbacks of our time. He also is not as durable as he once was. And Harrison always has been a precision receiver who does his best work in a controlled environment.

So the point is the market for him is going to be limited.

Someone will take a chance on him because of his history of production and because he is such a professional. But he is far from a sure thing. Among the teams that I think Harrison could be a fit with are the Saints, Cowboys and Eagles.

Q: Did the Texans make a big mistake getting rid of Sage Rosenfels? Seems like Matt Schaub can’t stay healthy.
— Anne Woods, Katy, Texas

A: It was time for them to trade Rosenfels. He didn’t want to be in Houston anymore and the Texans got value in return for him. And it’s not like anyone thought they were sitting on the next Matt Cassel. Trading him was not a mistake. The mistake would be not replacing him with a backup they can trust and count on, given Schaub’s history.

Q: Is Michael Crabtree still going to be the first receiver taken in the NFL draft?
—Pat, Lubbock, Texas

A: There is a lot of time between now and draft day, and a lot of things can happen. But as things stand right now, Crabtree is the No. 1 wide receiver on most draft boards, Pat. Part of the reason for that is there really isn’t another wide receiver that teams believe is a can’t-miss prospect. They all have flaws, including Crabtree. But Crabtree probably is the surest thing, despite the fact that he is having surgery to repair a stress fracture and despite the fact that teams do not have a confirmed 40-yard dash time on him.
