The Super Bowl is the biggest advertising event of the year by far, with a big chunk of the huge audience staying glued to their sets during the breaks in the game to see some of the 30-second spots that went for a record $3 million this year.
But the buzz-worthy "Super Bowl ad" hasn't always had the cultural resonance it does now, and it has come about thanks to some of the most memorable individual spots that Americans have caught during the 43 years they have been watching Super Bowls.
