Free-agent lefthander Andy Pettitte reportedly has turned down a $10 million contract offer from the New York Yankees, all but severing the pitcher's ties with the club.

The New York Times, citing a source with knowledge of the negotiations, reported Monday night that the team no longer has a standing offer out to Pettitte, who made $16 million with the Yankees in 2008.

Pettitte was considered the final piece in the Yankees' plan to rebuild their rotation. The club earlier signed free-agent lefty CC Sabathia to a record $161 million deal and free-agent righthander A.J. Burnett to an $82 million pact.

The Times speculated the club may now turn to free-agent righthander Derek Lowe, who reportedly is seeking $16 million a year. The New York Mets reportedly have offered Lowe $12 million a year over three years.
