LaDainian Tomlinson said his groin injury is “a lot better than Monday. After two days of resting it, it feels a lot better, so I’m hoping on Saturday it’ll be even better.”

SAN DIEGO - San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner told NBC Sports' Andrea Kremer that LaDainian Tomlinson will play in Saturday night's game vs. the Colts.

Turner said he was surprised by reports that the running back had a detached tendon in his groin.

The coach did allow that the Chargers were unsure how effective Tomlinson would be and would not know more until the game began.

Tomlinson and tight end Antonio Gates both had been listed as questionable.

Tomlinson suffered a groin injury in the third quarter of last Sunday's 52-21 win over Denver that helped the Chargers (8-8) clinch the AFC West title.

Gates is battling a high ankle sprain.

It is a familiar situation for the Chargers, who lost to New England in last season's AFC championship game without Tomlinson and Gates.

Gates was out with a toe injury and Tomlinson sat out most of the loss after aggravating a knee injury he suffered against Indianapolis the previous week.
