It's an easy Brees for the MVP award

Props for Flacco, Ryan
Let me apologize on record to Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan as they both continue to prove me wrong week after week. I never believed that either of these two young quarterbacks could lead their teams to the playoffs in their first year in the league, and could not have been more wrong.

If Baltimore beats Jacksonville this Sunday at home, they make the playoffs. The Falcons are already in and could win the NFC South if they win. Ryan was selected with the third overall pick in the draft. He is currently the 10th ranked quarterback in the NFL with an 89.7 rating, and has thrown for 3,280 yards and only nine interceptions. He will be a perennial Pro Bowl quarterback for the remainder of his career.

Flacco was selected with the 18th pick and was expected to compete for the starting quarterback spot in Baltimore, but quickly proved that he could win games by limiting his mistakes and listening to coach John Harbaugh.

Both rookies prepare each week like proven veterans and continue to listen to their coaches as they build outstanding chemistry with their receivers.

Lions should hire Schottenheimer
The Detroit Lions are about to go 0-16 and the Ford family deserves the embarrassment that comes along with this unfortunate milestone. Matt Millen was fired earlier in the season for building a roster of players with insufficient talent and an overall lack of desire to win. The combination of bad coaching and weak quarterback play helped this team spiral out of control to the basement of the NFL.

Marty Schottenheimer would be the perfect selection as the next head coach for this woeful franchise. The Lions need to rebuild and Schottenheimer has the experience and patience to help the organization turn things around. The remaining fan base that I interact with on the radio are close to pulling their hard-earned dollars away from the Lions.

Jets crash
The New York Jets are falling apart at the worst possible time. The Jets lost to Seattle 13-3 in Mike Holmgren’s last home game as the head coach of the Seahawks. That's three losses in their last four games.

Brett Favre has played awful at quarterback during this collapse and he must take a lot of the blame for his team’s lack of focus. Now the Jets need to beat Miami this Sunday and hope that either New England or Baltimore loses to get into the playoffs.

Once the season ends, the Jets must sit down with Favre and find out if he plans on returning in 2009. Emotional and impatient Jets fans will not stand for an offseason filled with Favre trying to make up his mind.

End game
Several head coaches and their assistants will be fired this upcoming Monday right in the middle of the holiday season. The list should include Tom Cable, Herman Edwards, Marvin Lewis, Jim Haslett, Romeo Crenell and Rod Marinelli. Life as a coach is never easy and hopefully all of these coaches will gain employment with different organizations next season.
