Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens on Tuesday denied saying he believes some of his teammates have been scheming to freeze him out of the team's offense.
Owens made the denial during a taped interview with ESPN. He contradicted a report the network published Thursday, in which it claimed Owens had accused quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten of secretly drawing up plays without his input.
"I never said none of those things," Owens told interviewer Stephen A. Smith. "What was reported by Ed (Werder, the story's author) is that I said that Tony and Witten were drawing up plays behind my back and freezing me out. I didn't say none of that. At all."
The Owens-Romo-Witten angle was just part of a larger story about Owens' relationship with his teammates. The piece sparked a media circus that lasted through the Cowboys' Sunday night victory over the New York Giants.
Owens told NBC on Sunday that Werder acted unprofessionally in his reporting of the story.
ESPN did not present a response by Werder to Owens' comments.
