WEC bantamweight Will Ribeiro is fighting for his life after being involved in a motorcycle crash in his native Brazil.

Ribeiro is hospitalized and comatose following an accident on early Tuesday morning in hometown of Rio De Janeiro, according to information released by the WEC.

Ribeiro's manager Ed Soares said Ribeiro was riding as a passenger on the vehicle and was not wearing a helmet when it crashed on a wet street. Soares added that Ribeiro lost sight in an eye and doctors believe he has a 50-50 chance of survival.

The 25-year-old Ribeiro is 10-2 in his career, fighting mostly in Brazil. He made his WEC in June and won a split decision over Chase Beebe before losing his most recent match just two weeks ago to unbeaten Brian Bowles.

Ribeiro has a positive reputation as a hard worker who rose from poverty. His father passed away when he was just two years old, and his mother when he was 18. Since then, Ribeiro has essentially functioned as a father to his 12-year-old sister. He was a onetime member of the Brazilian Olympic boxing team before transitioning into MMA.
