AUSTIN, Texas - Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and Longhorns defensive end Brian Orakpo have been named The Associated Press Big 12 offensive and defensive players of the year.
McCoy set a school record with 3,445 yards passing and 32 touchdowns. He also led the Longhorns in rushing with 576 yards and 10 TDs. Orakpo led Texas with 10½ sacks.
The offensive newcomer of the year is Baylor freshman quarterback Robert Griffin. Oklahoma freshman linebacker Travis Lewis was voted top defensive newcomer.
The players were selected by a panel of media that covers the Big 12.
