New York's Stephon Marbury sits on the bench as the Knicks play Milwaukee on Friday. The guard, who hasn't played at all this season, was activated for the game but did not see action despite the Knicks only suiting up eight players.

MILWAUKEE - Stephon Marbury was in uniform for the New York Knicks against Milwaukee on Friday night, but he didn't see what would have been his first action of the season.

Marbury has been relegated to the bench all season. But the Knicks traded away three players in two separate deals earlier Friday, forcing them to dress Marbury to have eight active players.

“We have eight able bodies,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said before Friday’s game. “That’s what the league makes you have, so that’s what we’ll have.”

But D’Antoni didn’t say whether Marbury, who was active for the season opener but hadn’t dressed for any game since, would play.

“I’ll sit down with him and talk, and we’ll wait until after the game to address all this,” D’Antoni said. “And you guys (the media) will have a better handle on what’s happened and I’m sure you’ll fire some questions at me and we’ll go from there. But right now, because the second trade went down, it kind of threw everybody for a little bit of a shock. And we do have eight guys ready to go.”

New York first traded guard Jamal Crawford to Golden State for forward Al Harrington, then sent forward Zach Randolph and guard Mardy Collins to the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Tim Thomas.

But the Knicks’ new additions might not be available to play until Tuesday’s game against Cleveland, leaving them considerably short-handed for the time being. They also were scheduled to play Saturday at home against Washington.
