According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the list of potential bidders for Padres ace Jake Peavy is down to three teams. That includes the Cubs, Braves and Dodgers -- and eliminates the Cardinals, Astros, Yankees and Angels.

Padres general manager Kevin Towers said earlier in the week that he expects a deal to get done, though Peavy still has the final say because of his no-trade clause.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Padres are seeking a major league-ready starting pitcher, a late-inning reliever and a middle infielder in exchange for Peavy, the 2007 N.L. Cy Young Award winner.

Talks with the Braves have stalled because Atlanta has refused to include top pitching prospect Tommy Hanson in a deal, and the Chicago Sun-Times reports San Diego likely will hit a roadblock in negotiations with the Cubs if it asks for young righthander Jeff Samardzija as part of the package for Peavy. Instead, the Cubs are believed to be trying to build a package around lefthander Sean Marshall, reliever Kevin Hart and middle infielder Mike Fontenot.
