Kacy Stuart, who was good enough to kick for a public school football team last year, apparently isn't what a private-school league is looking for this year, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The 14-year-old freshman from Spalding County (Ga.) was told Thursday — while having team pictures taken no less — that she could not play for New Creation Center, a private Christian academy, because she was a girl.
Stuart, who has practiced with the team for two months and played in a scrimmage on Aug. 23, was told by Hank St. Denis, executive board chairman of the Georgia Football League, that she would not be allowed to play, according to Kacy's mother, Angie Stuart.
"He said she can't play simply because she's a girl," Stuart said to the Journal-Constitution.
The newspaper's attempts to reach St. Denis through phone and e-mail messages for comment were unsuccessful.
"We'll file for an injunction if we have to," Angie Stuart said. "We'll do whatever it takes to keep her on the team."
Robins: It’s the Year of the Dragon on the Lunar calendar, and this Chinese influence could extend to it also being the year of the Pekingese on the green carpet at the 136th Westminster Dog Show on Tuesday.
NEW YORK (AP) - As the glow fades from the Giants' Super Bowl triumph, some New York sports fans are tuning in to basketball and hockey, with the Rangers in first place and the Knicks' overnight sensation, Jeremy Lin, sparking "Lin-sanity.''
Robins: This year, six new breeds will be making their debut on the green carpet for the Westminster Dog Show, which begins Monday.
