Ready to shine
Looking for a player who could become a big target as a senior? Look no further than Aliquippa (Pa.) High cornerback Terry Patrick.

Patrick is the brother of former Pitt cornerback Darrelle Revis, a former first-rounder who now plays for the New York Jets. Patrick’s uncle, Sean Gilbert, also played for Pitt and in the NFL.

There have been some questions about Patrick’s academic status, but that hasn’t stopped a few schools from showing interest. That interest will likely increase once his senior tape gets out. He recently took an unofficial visit to Pitt and liked what he saw.

“I made the trip with (teammate) Juantez Hollins (a guard who has committed to the Panthers),” he said. “It went well. I talked to the coaches. They were just telling me about some of the games they’ll be at this year and about the season. It was a little different seeing (former high school teammate) Jonathan Baldwin on the team now.”

Patrick confirmed the Panthers are leading, but that he isn’t ready to decide.

“I like the program and school,” he said. “I do have an offer from them. I’m hearing from Akron and Buffalo. Cincinnati is planning to evaluate me more, too.”

• Stanford now has six four-star commitments after adding wide receiver Jamal Patterson of McDonough (Ga.) Henry County earlier this week. The Cardinal never have signed more than five four-star prospects in one year. The six committed this year are three more than the previous three years combined.

• Four-star linebacker Jon Bostic of Wellington (Fla.) Palm Beach Central is almost ready to release his official visits list. He said he will use one at Tennessee when it plays host to Florida, another when Auburn plays host to Tennessee and another at LSU when Georgia comes to town. He also would like to visit USC and either Clemson or South Carolina. He will not make any official visits to state schools because he already has been to UCF, Florida, Florida State and Miami on unofficial visits and may make more unofficial visits to those schools.

• Four-star fullback Tyler Gaffney of San Diego Cathedral Catholic is starting to think about his official visit schedule, too. “I’d like to visit USC, Stanford and Notre Dame,” he said. “Those are three. I’m not sure of any others yet. I’m still looking into it. I don’t have an overall favorite, but definitely the top of the charts is USC and Stanford in no order.”

• Ohio State has wasted little time in getting a head start on its 2010 recruiting efforts. The Buckeyes recently offered a scholarship to Springfield (Pa.) Cardinal O’Hara star back Corey Brown. Brown now holds offers from Ohio State, Illinois, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.
