Missouri has made a living out of recruiting in Texas while also securing top in-state prospects. It’s not too often the Tigers will venture out nationally to snag a player, but that’s what they did when they secured a commitment from three-star receiver Jaleel Clark on Monday.
Clark, from Allentown (Pa.) Parkland, committed to the Tigers over Penn State and Pittsburgh. Clark, a 6-4, 202-pounder, said he felt at home in Columbia.
“The whole environment about Missouri just made me feel comfortable,” he said. “(Assistant) Coach (Dave) Steckel’s a great guy and a great coach. He said that if I came down there, I’d be part of his family. It was a great place to be, and the team’s awesome.
“I love the offense and can’t wait to get down there. It’s a family atmosphere, and it’s just one of those places you want to be. It seems like another home to me already.”
Etc.
• Three-star cornerback Taylor Sowell had long been a commitment for North Carolina, but Sowell — a 5-10, 187-pounder from Spartanburg, S.C. — recently backed out of his pledge and is beginning to look at other options. “I de-committed a few days back,” he said. “What happened was that I went to Georgia Tech and North Carolina didn’t want me to. We parted ways and I decided to back off my commitment. I’m not really looking at North Carolina anymore. Now I’m going to look at Miami, West Virginia and Georgia Tech.”
• Fast-rising quarterback Jeff Tuel (6-2/190) from Clovis (Calif.) West wanted to make his college decision before his senior season so he could put all his focus on his team. He did that by committing to Washington State recently.
• Lancaster (Texas) High was already one of the more talented teams in the Dallas Metroplex. Lancaster has at least seven Division I prospects in the 2009 class. Well, the rich just got richer. Lancaster picked up transfer Skyler Scott, one of the top wide receivers in the state of Texas. He had been at West Mesquite High in Mesquite.
Miami coach Al Golden says the worst is behind him, but his headaches figure to continue now that former booster Nevin Shapiro, now in jail, says his involvement with the Hurricanes program will result in stiff penalties.
CFT: Jordan Jefferson makes it clear he wasn't happy with LSU's game plan in the Tigers' BCS Championship Game loss to Alabama.
