GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers announced the signing of Ryan Grant on Sunday, a day after the running back and team agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $30 million.

Grant was in uniform and pads Sunday night for the Packers’ annual “Family Night” scrimmage, but was not expected to participate in live action.

Grant was an exclusive-rights free agent but refused to sign his tender offer from the team in hopes of working out a longterm deal. He did not report to camp earlier this week, and talks between the two sides had stalled until late in the week.

Grant, acquired by the Packers in a trade with the New York Giants just before the start of last season, became the starter in the second half of the season and rushed for 956 yards and eight touchdowns. He added 201 yards and three touchdowns in Green Bay’s playoff victory over Seattle.

To make room for Grant on the 80-man roster, the Packers waived long snapper Thomas Gafford — ending Gafford’s competition with J.J. Jansen to replace veteran long snapper Rob Davis, who retired after last season to take a job in the Packers’ front office.

Green Bay will have to make another move after Brett Favre is reinstated to the team’s active roster Monday.
