Beaten for being Yankees fan? July 7: A 20 year-old man is charged with beating a New York man with a bat, thinking he was a Yankees fan.

FALMOUTH, Mass. - A judge has denied bail to a Cape Cod man accused of beating a New Yorker with a bat because he thought he was a Yankees fan.

Judge Michael Creedon said Wednesday that 20-year-old Robert Correia is a danger to the public and ordered him held in jail for up to 90 days while awaiting trial on assault charges.

Correia is accused of beating William Nestor, of Northport, N.Y., with a bat as Nestor and his family waited in traffic following a July Fourth fireworks display in Falmouth.

Nestor testified he was attacked after asking a group of men to stop taunting people with New York license plates in the heart of Red Sox country.

Correia claims he tried to break up a fight and hit Nestor in self defense.
