Bjorn Borg vs. John McEnroe (1980)
The 1980 Wimbledon finals match between four-time defending champion Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe is widely viewed as one of tennis' most classic moments. Pitting the top player in the world (Borg) against his rival, the world No. 2, the championship delivered all the excitement the hype promised. McEnroe jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set before Borg rallied to take the next two sets. Despite two match points for Borg in the fourth, McEnroe battled back to force an epic tiebreak. Lasting 22 minutes, 34 points and five match points for Borg, the tiebreak ultimately went to the American. The championship, however, went to Borg, who prevailed 8-6 in the decisive fifth set.
