Roger Federer vs. Pete Sampras (2001)
The 2001 fourth-round match between Roger Federer and Pete Sampras marks the passing of the guard from one impressive champion to another. Federer ranks the moment as one of his most memorable, as not only was it his first time on Centre Court at Wimbledon but also the first and only time he played Sampras in a professional match. The 19-year-old Swiss player and former Wimbledon juniors champion knocked off the four-time defending Wimbledon champion in a thrilling five-setter, 7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5 before getting overwhelmed with emotion. Federer didn't win Wimbledon that year, but he did two years later.
