Stefan Edberg vs. Boris Becker (1990)
In 1990 for the third straight year, Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg met in the finals at Wimbledon. Edberg was victorious in 1988, while Becker won in 1989. Edberg started the match in fine form, jumping out to take the first two sets by identical 6-2 scores. Becker started to show signs of life at the end of the second set, however, and he seized momentum early in the third set. Becker went on to win both the third and fourth sets and set up a decisive fifth. It was in the fifth that the level of tennis was the highest, with Becker breaking to grab a 3-1 lead and Edberg immediately breaking back. With the players equally matched, the difference came in the eighth game when Edberg strung together a number of spectacular returns to break Becker. Edberg went on to win the title.
