Margaret Smith Court vs. Maria Bueno (1964)
The opponents in the 1964 Wimbledon finals couldn't have been more different. No. 1 Margaret Smith was confident, big and strong, and she used her power to her advantage on the court. No. 2 Maria Bueno was much smaller, but she was also faster. Bueno jumped out to claim the first set 6-4, then rallied from an 0-4 deficit in the second set to even it at 4-all. The ninth game that set featured eight deuces, but Smith saved each of the five break-point chances on her serve and went on to take the set 9-7. Outlasting Smith on long rallies in the third, Bueno ultimately claimed the decisive third set and the championship.
