Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal (2008)
It was the longest Wimbledon championship match in history, and it was worth every minute. Rafael Nadal captured his first Wimbledon title and fifth Grand Slam championship, surprising five-time defending champion Roger Federer in five riveting sets. Nadal surged out to a two set advantage, taking the first by 6-4 scores. On the brink of elimination, Federer battled back to win the next two sets in tiebreaks, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (8). But when the four-hour-and-48-minute match had ended, it was Nadal who received the champion's trophy, outlasting Federer 9-7 in the decisive fifth set. He became the first man to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year since Bjorn Borg in 1980.
The United States completed a 5-0 rout of Switzerland in the Davis Cup on Sunday, with 19-year-old Ryan Harrison and John Isner winning closing singles matches.
