Merion Golf Club, the site of the 2013 U.S. Open, has two 18-hole courses: the West Course and the East Course. It is the East Course, the older of the two by two years having opened in 1912, on which the 1934, 1950, 1971 and 1981 U.S. Open were played. It will also be the course on which the 2013 U.S. Open field competes. Merion earned the hosting duties after lengthening its course from around 6400 yards to 6,846 yards.
