He was headed into a playoff with a two-time U.S. Open champion and golf legend, but Lee Trevino didn't seem at all stressed in 1971. In fact, he was able to plan a joke to play on his opponent, Jack Nicklaus. Just moments before the two took to the tee in the extra holes, he grabbed a rubber snake out of his golf bag and chucked it at Nicklaus. The Golden Bear had seen the snake previously, knew it was coming, laughed about it and promptly birdied the first playoff hole, but Trevino had the last laugh. He went on to win the title by three strokes.
