When seven-time major title winner Arnold Palmer built a seven-shot lead with just nine holes to go at the 1966 U.S. Open, his victory seemed assured. In one of the most remarkable comebacks in tournament history, however, Billy Casper surged up the leaderboard to tie Palmer and force a playoff, shooting a 32 on the back nine while Palmer shot a 39. Palmer's collapse came as he lost a stroke at the 10th, one at the 13th, two at both the 15th and 16th and one at the 17th. Casper went on to win the title in an 18-hole playoff, coming from behind yet again.
