Ya don't say
“It’s not appropriate to speculate on the ‘What if’ game.”
— Ted Thompson, Packers general manager, ducking questions about a possible unretirement by Brett Favre.
“It’s a little bit of a risk, yes. There’s a lot of guys who have gone over the last two days with more substantial things hanging over their heads.”
— Marvin Lewis, Bengals head coach, addressing the legal issues of Fresno State defensive tackle Jason Shirley.
"I want what’s best for Jason. If he wants to go where he’s got a shot at getting a Super Bowl trophy, I'm all for that. He deserves that. If we can get him placed in a spot where he can go to the big game, then we would do that.”
— Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga, telling ESPN radio in Miami what he’d like to see happen with Jason Taylor.
“I can honestly say we got one of the better players on our board. It was the right place to take him.”
— Ozzie Newsome, Ravens GM, on drafting Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco with the 18th pick.
“I definitely think I've got something to prove and I'll use that to motivate me, like I always have.”
— Flacco, talking about the pressure he'll face.
“You've got to remember, they ran me out of town for doing that with Kyle Boller.”
— Brian Billick, NFL Network draft analyst and former Ravens coach on whether Flacco should start as a rookie.
“Can’t wait to see who we 'steal' at No. 66. Any 6-foot, 225-pound (defensive ends) out there who run a 5.5 40-yard that we are afraid someone will beat us to?”
— CJMAHAFFEY, Lions fans, on a Detroit Free Press message board after the Lions took Boston College lineman Gosder Cherilus in the first round Saturday.
“I am a little geeked up right now.”
— Rams coach Scott Linehan speaking of No. 2 pick Chris Long and borrowing a line first famously uttered by Tom Landry after the Cowboys took Jethro Pugh back in 1965.
