Rockies not interested in Fogg
Rockies owner Dick Monfort said the Rockies have no plans to acquire a starter to help the team’s beleaguered rotation. While one could argue that Josh Fogg wouldn’t be helping, he’s not in the team’s plans, either. (Denver Post)

Letterman bad luck for Wright?
Before appearing as a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman, David Wright was hitting .311 on the season. Since then, he’s hitting just .259. The third baseman also appeared on the show during the All Star break in 2006. Before that he had hit 20 home runs. After that? Just six. Letterman may have jinxed himself out of a guest. White Sox plan fire sale if losing continues
Count on White Sox GM Kenny Williams making drastic changes to the team’s roster if it’s still struggling come the All Star break. Jim Thome, Joe Crede and Orlando Cabrera are all big names who are in the last years of their contracts. (Chicago Sun-Times)

Morning tidbits

McNamee team ready to dig dirt on Rocket
The recently contrite Roger Clemens may have more trouble on his hands. The man who he filed a defamation suit against, former trainer and steroid injector Brian McNamee, is about to send two retired New York police officers to Houston to dig up whatever they can on the Rocket, whether it be steroids related or not. (New York Times)

Wells wants to return to Yankees
David Wells can’t get enough of the Bronx. The nearly 45 year old has apparently been working out in San Diego and is hoping he can come back and help the Yankees rotation get righted. You know Daddy Steinbrenner would be interested. But would Juniors? (New York Post)

San Diego could be done with Edmonds
Callix Crabbe is a light-hitting rookie. And he got to pinch hit for Jim Edmonds on Wednesday night. This appears to be the beginning of the end for the 37-year-old Edmonds in San Diego. GM Kevin Towers has actually talked to reporters about how much Edmonds has slowed down. Problem is, Edmonds is due $8 million this year with $2 million coming from St. Louis. The Padres are loath to eat the cash but also don’t want to keep Edmonds and his .176 batting average around either. (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Royals' Soria might go to starting rotation
Kansas City closer Joakim Soria is having an awesome second season: eight out of eight on saves, no runs surrendered, 15 strikeouts, and a .071 batting average against. So the Royals are imagining how much more effective he might be if he was put in the rotation and had more opportunities to throw strikes (Kansas City Star)
