In the MMA world, Leonard Garcia goes by the nickname "Bad Boy," and authorities in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas agree.
Garcia, a current WEC featherweight and former UFC fighter, was arrested as part of drug trafficking ring, KCBD in Texas reported. Garcia was one of 13 men taken into custody in at least two raids as part of a four-year investigation, the station reported.
The U.S. District Attorney said that at least two kilograms of cocaine was seized during the arrests.
Garcia made his UFC debut at UFC 69 last April. Fighting on the undercard of the Matt Serra vs. Georges St. Pierre main event, Garcia and his opponent Roger Huerta nearly stole the show with a three-round war that many considered one of the top fights of the year. After two more fights in the UFC and a combined 1-2 record, Garcia was moved over to the WEC and dropped down a weight class.
He debuted in February and posted a knockout win over Hiroyuki Takaya.
The 28-year-old was charged with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 5 kilos or more of cocaine.
