The Washington Redskins may be looking to help their rookie coach Jim Zorn, as they are interested in pursuing a trade for disgruntled Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson, according to the Washington Post.
The report said that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was eager to add a top-notch receiver to his roster, and had Johnson at the top of his list. It also said that Johnson, according to two league sources, was "eager to land a hefty new contract from Washington."
The Bengals have said they do not want to trade Johnson, but the receiver's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is said to be working behind the scenes to facilitate a trade, the Post reported.
Johnson is a talented reciever who has caught no fewer than 87 passes over each of the last five seasons. But he has also clashed with coaches and rubbed some people the wrong way with his gamesmanship.
"He made it very clear that (Johnson) was his top choice," one coaching candidate told the Post.
The Post, citing the insight of two unnamed NFL general managers, speculated that it would likely take a low first-round pick and a third-round pick, or perhaps two second-round picks, to acquire Johnson.
