Bob Murphy, a veteran of the golf broadcast booth and a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, serves as a tower reporter on NBC’s coverage of the PGA Tour – including The Players Championship – and events such as the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup, President’s Cup and the rest of NBC’s golf tour, network television’s premier golf package.

Murphy, who joined NBC in November 1999, continues to play a schedule of Champions Tour events around his NBC assignments. In August 2003, he tied for fourth at the 3M Championship at TPC of the Twin Cities – his best finish since a second at the Nationwide Championship in May 1999.

“Bob offers a very dramatic kind of call, especially in big-time situations,” said Tom Roy, Executive Producer, NBC Sports. “Murph’s knowledge as a current player on the Champions Tour brings a whole new perspective.”

The 1965 U.S. Amateur champion, Murphy turned professional in 1967. He won five times on the PGA Tour before a constant battle with arthritis led him to begin a television career. He worked on CBS’s golf coverage from 1980-85 and continued to handle the 10th hole tower on the network’s coverage of the Masters through 1990. From 1988-92, he worked a full schedule of ESPN golf telecasts before rededicating himself to a playing career. Murphy joined the Champions Tour in 1993, won two events that year, and has won a total of 11 events as a senior.

Murphy joined the PGA Tour in 1968 and won the Philadelphia Golf Classic and the Thunderbird Classic that year, en route to a rookie-record $105,959 in earnings that season. Among his five PGA Tour victories were the 1975 Jackie Gleason-Inverrary Classic – where he beat Greg Norman by three strokes – and the 1986 Canadian Open. Other career highlights include winning the 1966 NCAA individual championship while playing for the University of Florida and earning a spot on the victorious 1975 U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Murphy resides in Delray Beach, Fla. with his wife, Gail.
