SUNDSVALL, Sweden - Scottie Pippen will play a basketball game in Sweden for the Sundsvall Dragons in January.
The former Chicago Bulls great will join the team in northeastern Sweden for the Jan. 11 game against rival Akropol. The deal came about because Bulls assistant coach Mike Wilhelm is friendly with Sundsvall Dragons chairman Anders Ohrn.
"We established a relationship with Mike Wilhelm in 1980 when he was an exchange student here in town," Ohrn said Tuesday. "He is the agent for our juniors."
Pippen was often overshadowed by Bulls teammate Michael Jordan, but he spent 12 seasons with Chicago and helped the team win six NBA titles. He also won two Olympic gold medals.
The 42-year-old Pippen, who also played for the Houston Rockets and the Portland Trail Blazers, retired in 2005 after 17 seasons in the NBA. Pippen made the NBA All-Star team seven times and was chosen as one of the game's 50 greatest players in 1996.
PBT: Boston's Rajon Rondo continues to be named in trade talks, which is madness. The Celtics guard creates offense and makes everyone around him better, which was evident in Sunday's win over the Bulls.
Paul Pierce has been around long enough to know what Rajon Rondo's performance can mean for the aging Boston Celtics.
