Rodman wants to worm his way into WNBA

Ex-NBA star floats idea of coaching Atlanta team, but owner not interested

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman would like to coach in the WNBA.

ATLANTA - Dennis Rodman most likely will have to look elsewhere for a job.

Ron Terwilliger, the owner of the new WNBA team in Atlanta, wants his coach to be a woman — not just dress like one.

The ex-Chicago Bulls forward, who made headlines a few years back by dressing as a drag queen, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he is interested in a WNBA coaching job. And the Atlanta team begins play next summer.

“I love the city of Atlanta,” Rodman told the paper through a spokesman. “Atlanta would be the ideal situation, starting from scratch.”

Terwilliger said hiring Rodman would certainly drum up more interest in his team, but he’s looking for someone with more sideline experience.

“My own view is that I don’t think he’s currently qualified to be a head coach,” Terwilliger said. “We need someone who knows the league, knows how it works, knows the players and knows the college talent coming up. And we’d prefer to have a women’s coach since it’s a women’s league.”
