Getty ImagesATLANTA - Sean Glennon started at quarterback for Virginia Tech with his name written on the back in magic marker.
Upon closer inspection, it was apparent that Glennon was wearing the black and gold of Georgia Tech instead of the maroon and orange of the Hokies.
Four Virginia Tech players had to wear loaner attire from the home team after their own white jerseys disappeared from Bobby Dodd Stadium before Thursday night’s game.
Glennon and fellow quarterback Tyrod Taylor were among those who had to wear white road jerseys provided by the home team. Also missing: the jerseys of two defensive starters, safety Kam Chancellor and cornerback Brandon Flowers.
The Georgia Tech jerseys were altered for the Hokies. In addition to the names being handwritten on the back, the “Yellow Jackets” name across the front was blacked out with a black marker, as was the manufacturers logo.
The Yellow Jackets wear Russell attire, while Nike is Virginia Tech’s official supplier. So, the Russell logo was colored over and the Nike “swoosh” was drawn in beside it.
The Hokies had no idea what happened to the four jerseys. There was no evidence of a break-in to the visiting locker room. A review of video surveillance tape showed nothing suspicious.
Replacement jerseys arrived for everyone except Glennon during the first half. Flowers and Chancellor changed into their Virginia Tech jerseys before halftime, but Taylor — perhaps in solidarity with his fellow QB — remained in his Georgia Tech jersey.
Taylor, who replaced Glennon as the starter early in the season, missed his second straight game because of an ankle injury.
