Chicago Cubs
Talk about the perfect fit for A-Rod. The Cubs are going on 100 years without winning a championship and they are desperate to win. Lou Pinella has a father-son type relationship with him and should be on the offensive this week to get him to take a serious look at a future in Chicago.
Even though the Cubs are in an ownership transition, the new owners should be expected to have enough money to make a splash by signing the best player in baseball. Wrigley Field is the best stadium in baseball for A-Rod to continue to hit over 50 home runs and drive in 150+ RBI and eventually breaks Barry Bond's all time home run mark.
Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim
Now I finally understand why owner Artie Moreno fought so hard to get LA in front of Angels. He is smart enough to put together a package that could satisfy Mrs. Rodriguez. She might enjoy bringing up her children in the warm weather of Southern California in a castle similar to the home that the Beckham's currently reside in. The Angeles would be tough to beat with Vladimir Guerrero and Alex Rodriguez in the same lineup.
San Francisco Giants
If the Giants didn't commit $126 million to Barry Zito last season, they might have been able to put together a real offer for A-Rod. San Francisco is not a small market even though they want to be considered one, and they have never won a world series since leaving the Polo Grounds. The city would embrace him after watching Bonds stain the game because of his relationship with BALCO and alleged performance enhancing drugs.
Detroit Tigers
Mike Illich has as much money as any owner in baseball and could sell the Red Wings to pay for the next 10 seasons with A-Rod in a Tiger's uniform. Take it easy hockey fans, that will not happen. Nevertheless, Scott Boras loves sending his clients to the Motor City and Detroit is a great sports town. I doubt if Mrs. Rodriguez wants to live in the suburbs of Michigan.
New York Mets
The Mets have the money but A-Rod couldn't get a cup of coffee each morning without worrying about a Yankee fan spitting in his cup. Jose Reyes is one of the premiere shortstops in baseball and the Mets are committed to him for years to come.
Los Angeles Dodgers
With the impending hiring of Joe Torre, the Dodgers would love to have a new super star playing 10 minutes from Hollywood. The problem for Dodgers fans is that owner Frank McCourt cares more about parking revenue than putting a quality product on the field.
Seattle Mariners
This is the only city where Rodriguez was truly comfortable and happy. The Mariners have a great stadium and a loyal fan base who wouldn’t mind paying higher prices for tickets if Alex came back.
Florida Marlins
You have to bee kidding! During the last week of this past season, they were averaging about 300 fans at home game at Dolphin’s Stadium.
SportsTalk: Albert Pujols signs with the Angels and Prince Fielder joins the Tigers. Which team is better now?
DeMarco: Plug in a well-heeled ownership group and negotiate one of those mega-bucks TV deals that are going around, and the Dodgers could become the west coast version of the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox.
