LONDON - Arsenal and Manchester United moved closer to a place in the next round of the Champions League with big victories Tuesday that extended the perfect starts for the English clubs.

Arsenal beat visiting Slavia Prague 7-0 to equal the biggest margin of victory in the competition’s history. English champion United won 4-2 at Dynamo Kiev.

Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas each scored two goals at Emirates Stadium as Arsenal dominated Slavia Prague and matched Juventus’ 2003 win over Olympiakos. Walcott became the first Englishman to score in the Champions League for Arsenal since Sol Campbell in the 2006 final loss to Barcelona.

Arsenal leads Group H with nine points, three more than Sevilla. The Spanish club beat last-place Steaua Bucharest 2-1 on goals by Frederic Kanoute and Luis Fabiano.

Wayne Rooney scored his seventh goal in six games and Cristiano Ronaldo scored one in each half to lead 1999 champion United in Ukraine.

“Our attacking play was excellent tonight,” United manager Alex Ferguson said. “We could have scored a lot of goals.”

United, which leads with nine points, has 12 goals in its last three games and has conceded only six goals in 14 games this season. AS Roma is in second place with six points after a 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon.

Inter took the Group E lead from Fenerbahce, which drew 0-0 at PSV Eindhoven. Rangers and Barcelona maintained their unbeaten starts to Group E at Ibrox.

“Let’s not kid ourselves. Barcelona are one of the best teams about on the planet,” Rangers captain Barry Ferguson said. “They’re going to have the vast majority of possession, everybody knows that.

Barcelona and Rangers both have seven points from three games, four more than Lyon, which got its first points with a 2-0 win at German champion Stuttgart.
