NEW YORK - The New York Yankees will hold a face-to-face meeting with Alex Rodriguez to convince their star third baseman to not opt out of his contract and stay in New York, the New York Post reported.

"Apparently we will talk soon, I am told," Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras, told the paper. "I would expect it will include all parties."

Boras told the paper that Rodriguez isn't interested in discussing financial terms until he hears from Hank and Hal Steinbrenner about the direction George Steinbrenner's sons intend to take with the Yankees.

George's two sons have taken over the day-to-day operations of the team.

"We have been very clear with the Yankees that we are not in the economic phase of the process," Boras told the paper. "We are considering our next step and that will be preceded by taking in information. We want to be thorough. Alex wants to know the intentions of Hank and Hal."

The Steinbrenners have reportedly told GM Brian Cashman to deliver an offer to Rodriguez -- and other potential free agents Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada. If Rodriguez does opt out, the Steinbrenners reportedly won't chase Rodriguez as a free agent.

"I am not going to give a blow-by-blow (account)," Cashman told the paper. He also wouldn't comment whether he had made offers to Rivera and Posada.

Rodriguez has until the 10th day following the World Series to decide whether to opt out of his record $252 million, 10-year contract and become a free agent. The Yankees plan to offer him an extension and say they would drop out of talks if A-Rod opts out.

Rodriguez is guaranteed salaries of $24 million in each of the next three seasons from the Yankees, who receive $21.3 million from Texas as part of the 2004 trade that brought A-Rod to New York. If Rodriguez opts out, the Yankees would lose that subsidy.
