Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner has torn ligaments in his left elbow, according to a report.

YahooSports reported Monday that the veteran signal-caller sent an e-mail to family and friends late Sunday stating he had torn ligaments in his non-throwing elbow.

Warner was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday after suffering the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s 25-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

“It was just painful,” Warner said after the game.  “I have no strength in there, I couldn’t really move it, so there would be no way to hold it with my left hand.

“I could have maybe thrown it a little, but there is a lot more to the game than running back with one hand and throwing it.”

The 36-year-old Warner was making his first start of the season for the Cardinals (3-3), who already are without quarterback Matt Leinart.  Arizona’s starter over the first five games this year, Leinart will miss the remainder of the campaign with a broken collarbone.

Warner, who had been splitting time with Leinart while both quarterbacks were healthy, was replaced Sunday by Tim Rattay, who was signed this week after Leinart was hurt.
