If Young develops like Elway did, the Titans are going to be a force in this league for years to come.

Young is already more disciplined than Elway was early on. The team looks to run first and use the pass sparingly. Against the Saints, he threw just 22 times, but he completed 14 of them for two touchdowns and one interception.

What was most impressive was the way he hung in the pocket and found secondary receivers; he does not have happy feet. But his legs are such a threat that the defense had to stay honest.

His biggest run was for a first down on the fourth-quarter drive that pretty much buried the Saints. He was masterful on that drive, finishing it by scrambling out of the pocket, running right, then looking left to find Bo Scaife, his teammate at Texas, in the end zone. Young didn’t just hit Scaife in traffic, he threw the ball low and away in a spot where only Scaife could catch it.

That was a veteran play pulled off by a virtual rookie. And as the night went on, it was Brees, who had led the league’s most prolific offense last year, who looked like the greenhorn and Young who looked like the cool veteran.

It was his first night on a national stage. There will be more.
