DAVIE, Fla. - Miami Dolphins receiver Chris Chambers says his image wasn’t tarnished by an arrest two weeks ago in North Carolina on a charge of driving while impaired.
“The people who know me know what type of character I have,” Chambers said Saturday at the start of training camp. “It’s a little embarrassing to myself and my family, but I learned from it, and I’m going to move on.”
Chambers spoke publicly for the first time about the arrest, his first known brush with the law. The seventh-year pro was arrested after being pulled over several miles south of downtown Charlotte, and he was also cited for reckless driving and speeding.
A court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 15.
“I had a lot of support — e-mail and phone calls from around the league and my teammates — and that made me feel good,” Chambers said. “It feels a lot better when you get around your teammates and get back on the field and back to doing your job. It’s a little steppingstone.”
