Abdul-Jabbar managing his illness
Nov. 15: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wants to be very clear that his cancer was caught early and that he's not dealing with a death sentence.

Q: What is going to happen with Kenyon Martin?
— Heath, Denver

A: Hopefully good health. He's the big issue with the Nuggets. He is due back and it was hardly a secret he and George Karl didn't exactly hit it off. He's owed so much money with a deteriorated knee he's untradeable. As a result, they'll probably have to trade Marcus Camby to save money. They'll have to plug him in at power forward and move Nene to center and hope Martin doesn't break down again and has something left. It's not a good situation.

Q: How about the Heat? When are they going to get a real point guard to run the team and let D-Wade do his thing?
— George F. Valle, Miami

A: They're trying, but it isn't easy. They drafted one in the first round, though there's little or no chance Pat Riley plays Cook. The Bobcats figure to release Brevin Knight, so he's a possibility. They'll come up with some veteran and give it a shot.

Q: One simple question: Is Robert Horry a Hall of Famer? Seven rings, key shots, average-D and never sat on the bench for most of the playoffs. Is that enough to get him in the hall?
— Al P., Downey, Calif.

A: A simple answer: No. C'mon, he's not even close. It would be an insult to the players in the Hall of Fame to add such an indifferent play who has spent much of his career being less than he could be, often not playing hard or caring much in the regular season, mostly a career reserve who's been fortunate to be in the right position to hit some big shots. He's been a wonderful clutch shooter in the playoffs, but rarely has been even one of the five best players on his team.

Q: Okay, the Grizzlies need a center. Why not go with Marc Gasol. Big and strong and can play well with his brother. The Grizzlies need defense and rebounds both of which Marc can handle. Any points he offers would be a bonus. I vote for Marc Gasol.
— Louie Johnson, Memphis

A: Another election loss. The Lakers got Gasol to help out Kobe. Just the wrong one.
