California drug test results
The California State Athletic Commission released information that Carter Williams failed a drug test following the Strikeforce Elite XC event at San Jose last Friday.

According to tests results Williams tested positive for cocaine and has been fined $1,000 and suspended until Dec. 19, 2007.

Another MMA fighter Jorge Ortiz was found tested positive for steroids following his Total Combat appearance on June 8 in San Diego.

Bill Douglas, Staff Services Analyst for CSAC, stated Ortiz tested positive for Nandrolone Metabolite. He has been fined $2,500 and suspended until March 19, plus an additional 80 days to complete 365 days of suspension.

Strikeforce Elite XC results
Frank Shamrock proved the art of war can prevail over fistic fury when he beat New York’s Phil Baroni in an exciting bout at the HP Pavilion on Friday June 22 and captured the first Strikeforce middleweight title.

According to reports, Baroni was surprised by the outcome (rear naked choke) but respectful toward Shamrock.

In many circles Shamrock was considered the underdog because of his lack of activity the past five years.

Other winners at the Strikeforce Elite XC event: Murila “Ninja” Rua beat Joey Villasenor by technical knockout in the second round; Cung Le stopped Tony “The Freak” Fryklund in the third round; Josh Thompson defeated Nick Gonzalez by submission via rear naked choke in the first round.

A replay of the main fight card will be televised on Showtime on Saturday June 30 at 10 p.m. both Eastern and Pacific time.

UFC 73
MMA stars Tito Ortiz and Rashad “Sugar” Evans lead a “Stacked” MMA card at the Arco Arena in Sacramento on July 7. Also on the fight card will be Anderson “Spider” Silva defending his UFC middleweight title against Nate “The Great” Marquardt.

The fight card will be available on pay-per-view.
