NEW YORK - The final round of the U.S. Open drew 2.5 million more viewers than last year.

Sunday’s coverage on NBC earned a 6.4 national rating and 16 share, up 36 percent from the 4.7/12 after Tiger Woods missed the cut in 2006.

The broadcast averaged 9.54 million viewers as Angel Cabrera held off Woods for the victory. It was the highest-rated final round since 2002, when 13.1 million viewers watched Woods win at Bethpage.

The rating is the percentage watching a telecast among homes with televisions, and the share is the percentage tuned into a broadcast among those households with televisions on at the time. A ratings point represents 1,114,000 households.
