Rampage’s trainer
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s manager Juanito Ibarra said he was never in doubt of his protégé’s ability to capture the win over Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell last week.
“Chuck is a great fighter, but he’s kind of tailor-made for Rampage,” Ibarra said. “Preparing for Chuck Liddell took a lot of preparation, but Quinton is very dedicated. He did everything he had to do to win.”
WEC
WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber forced a submission from Chance Farrar (5-1) in 3:19 of the first round at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas last Sunday.
“I figured I’d end up in some weird position because he’s a high-level wrestler,” said Faber, who made his third successful title defense. “Those aren’t unfamiliar positions because I do stuff like that every day.”
US Marine Lt. Brian Stann pounded on Craig Zellner in the opening round and scored a technical knockout at 4:57 of the light heavyweight bout.
UFC 72 card
UFC announced the main fight card that takes place in Belfast, Ireland on June 16 at the Odyssey Arena:
In the main event, Rich Franklin (23-2) meets Japan’s Yushin Okami (21-3) in a middleweight bout. Also on the card will be Forrest Griffin (13-4) facing Hector Ramirez (6-2-1) in a light heavyweight fight. Rory Singer (12-7) will oppose Jason MacDonald (19-8) in a middleweight bout. Clay Guida 21-4) finds himself against Tyson Griffin (8-1) in a lightweight contest.
MMA on TV
On Saturday, Showtime will replay the FEG Dynamite USA fight card that featured Royce Gracie, Brock Lesnar, Johnny Morton and others. The fight card will be shown at 9 p.m.
On Tuesday, UFC Fight Night can be seen on Spike TV beginning at 9 p.m. The main event features Spencer Fisher against Sam Stout.
