A bantamweight fight between Manny Tapia and Brandon Foxworth ended at 3:17 of the second round. Though Foxworth is known for an ability to take a punch, he couldn’t handle Tapia’s power. Twice in the first round Foxworth was dropped by right hands. But a left hand in the second round forced the referee to stop the fight.
“He took my shots and just kept coming,” Tapia said. “He just wore me out.”
The bouts will be shown later on Versus television.
UFC 71
Just one more week before Chuck “Iceman” Liddell defends his light heavyweight world title against Quentin “Rampage” Jackson at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 26.
On Wednesday, both Jackson and Liddell will be working out for the public. Jackson begins at 1 p.m. at the MGM Grand. Liddell begins at 2 p.m.
The weighing will take place between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Garden Arena on Friday.
On Saturday the UFC 71 event begins at 5:10 p.m.
NEF tryouts
New Era Fighting will be holding tryouts from July 18 to July 20 at the Quiet Cannon golf course in Montebello, Calif., for the “World’s Toughest Man” contest. No date has been set for the contest, where the winner will take home $1 million.
Participants must weigh a minimum of 205 pounds. Some current members of the NEF stable are Kimo Leopoldo, Aaron Brink, Liron Wilson and Rick Arballo.
