HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Huntington High School basketball star O.J. Mayo was among four males cited on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges late Friday night, police said.
Cabell County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Adams said officers serving a search warrant at a house pulled over a Cadillac they deemed suspicious and Mayo was a passenger.
"This was unrelated, but the car kept circling the area and was stopped," Adams told The Herald-Dispatch. "Along with Mayo, there were three other people in the car. The driver had a small amount of marijuana on him, and in the back of the car in a spare set of shoes was more marijuana."
Adams said Mayo was the only Huntington High basketball player in the vehicle.
He was not arrested and faces an appearance in Cabell Magistrate Court.
Mayo, 19, is considered one of the top prep players in the nation.
He transferred to Huntington last August for his senior year from North College Hill in Cincinnati, where he had been since spring of 2003.
The Huntington native had transferred in 2001 from Huntington's Cammack Middle School to Rose Hill Christian in Ashland, Ky., before the transfer to North College Hill.
Brian Johnson, who led Utah to an upset of Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, is ready for his first season as the Utes' offensive coordinator. At 25, the ex-QB will be the youngest with that job at the FBS level.
