One FOB (friend of Brady's) was quoted in a local Boston paper saying Moynihan had timed the public announcement of her pregnancy to "make Tom look like a jerk'' while he was cavorting around Europe with his new girl. If that's true, she succeeded. But then he piled on himself by having his agent issue say, "Tom and his family are excited about the pregnancy.'' What does that mean? Excited happy or excited like suffering from heart palpitations? Excited giddy or excited growling?
No one knows. All they know is Tom Terrific's girlfriend became pregnant awfully close to the same time they broke up and not all that long after she made public her desire to get married and start a family. John-Boy certainly didn't have to want any part of Bridget Moynahan's life quest but, as things turned out, he's got half of it anyway whether he wanted it or not.
Public opinion is split on this pretty much along sexual lines. Women who once adored him now think "He's just like the rest of them.'' Which, frankly, maybe he always was. Many men, although not all, smirk and think he's on a roll, trading up from a B actress to a supermodel 10 years younger who's reportedly worth $70 million.
"It's his business,'' they say, which is, of course, the truth — but it's also the problem.
It's Brady's business — and not his agent's — so he'd be wise to take care of it himself rather than let an employee sound like the quarterback was taking a free weekend trip to Belize. It is a situation that won't go away. Not next week or next year or ever. That's what having a child means if you really are their parent.
