Some Ohio stores are stocking up on alligator meat for Monday’s national championship game against the Florida Gators.
Stores in Akron and Columbus are running ads prompting customers to “bring home your own slice of gator.”
Doug Fulton, manager of meat for West Point Market in Akron, is a University of Florida graduate who has been a professional chef for 17 years. He says gator meat, selling at $14.99 a pound or $6.99 for frozen alligator fillets, does not taste like chicken.
“It’s more of a chicken texture, but I tell people it tastes like alligator,” he said.
