Cardinals optimistic they can land offensive tackle

The addition of Willie Williams at Louisville could have a major impact for the Cardinals with 2008 Rivals100 to watch offensive tackle Gregory Shaw. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Shaw claims no favorites, but says the fact his brother is at Louisville will be a major factor in his decision.

Cincinnati
Cincinnati’s Charley Molner was one of the top recruiters in the Big East this year, pulling in five commits including O.J. Woodard, Randy Martinez, Craig Parmenter and Tahree McQueen. … Cincinnati is one of two schools to have already offered Rivals250 to watch quarterback Jack Ramsey. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder plans to take in a junior day at Cincinnati this weekend. … Columbus running back Isaiah Pead picked up an offer from Cincinnati recently. It was the first offer for the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder, and he is considering making the trip to the Bearcats’ junior day this weekend.

Connecticut
Assistant head coach Hank Hughes was a major reason for the success the Huskies had on the recruiting trail in 2007. Hughes pulled in four-star linebacker Jarrell Miller to go along with Gary Bardzak and Robbie Frey.  Hughes was named as one of the Big East’s top 10 recruiters by Rivals.com. … The Huskies picked up their first commitment of 2008 from Bridgeport (Conn.) Central defensive end Trevardo Williams. … Connecticut has already offered Virginia athlete Morgan Carter and Florida defensive end Jeremy Longo. … The Huskies are an early leader for Millersburg (Pa.) Area tight end Ryan Boyer. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has been to Storrs a few times already.

Louisville
Louisville had two impressive recruiters this year. Mike Cassity was the leading recruiter in the conference and one of the top 25 in the country. Cassity landed major talents like Woodny Turenne, Willie Williams and C.J. Peake. … Greg Nord did a fine job as well, landing Victor Anderson, Doug Beaumont and Greg Tomczyk. … The addition of Willie Williams from Miami could have a major impact for the Cardinals with Rivals100 to watch offensive tackle Gregory Shaw. Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh had two impressive recruiters on the trail this year in Bob Junko and Paul Rhoads. Combined, the two helped the Panthers land stars including Brandon Lindsey, Chris Jacobson, Dom DeCicco, Kyle Hubbard, Maurice Williams and Dan Matha. … The Panthers received their first commitment for the class of 2008 from Johnstown, Pa. cornerback Antwuan Reed. The 5-foot-9, 170-pounder also had offers from Virginia and Buffalo. … Rivals250 to watch offensive tackle Lucas Nix appears to be favoring Pittsburgh early. The 6-foot-6, 285-pounder is the brother of Pitt freshman Nate Nix.
