The Wolfpack are the first school to offer speedy Pittsboro (N.C.) Northwood athlete Tobias Palmer. North Carolina State is also in on Shelby (N.C.) Crest linebacker Duane Maddox, who also holds offers from North Carolina and Florida. According to his coach, the 6-foot, 220-pound Maddox appears to be favoring the Tar Heels and Wolfpack. … Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast wide receiver Avis Commack holds four early offers. Georgia Tech, Illinois, South Carolina and North Carolina State are interested in the 6-foot-4, 180-pounder. Commack claims no favorites, but says he is focused on the schools that offer him.

Brian Johnson, who led Utah to an upset of Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, is ready for his first season as the Utes' offensive coordinator. At 25, the ex-QB will be the youngest with that job at the FBS level.
