Gators’ Horford expected to sit vs. Ohio State

Florida's Al Horford has missed the past two games with a sprained ankle.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida center Al Horford is expected to miss the No. 5 Gators’ game against third-ranked Ohio State on Saturday because of a sprained ankle.

Horford, a 6-foot-10 center who is averaging 13.2 points and 8.3 rebounds, sprained the ankle Dec. 11 and sat out the past two games.

“I don’t anticipate him playing at all,” coach Billy Donovan said Thursday. “There’s no chance of him playing right now.”

The Gators (10-2) have won both games without Horford, but the junior could be missed significantly against the Buckeyes and 7-foot freshman Greg Oden.

Horford spent a week wearing a protective boot on his left foot. He has started running and going through some drills, but Donovan said his workouts have been solely conditioning drills.

“Although he’s made strides, gotten better and improved, he hasn’t done anything against anybody, hasn’t had any contact,” Donovan said. “All I can go off of is where he’s at today and project to Saturday, and I’m projecting right now he’s not playing.

“I really don’t know how long it’s going to take for him to totally be healed and healthy.”
