Grossman on brink
Things aren’t as bad in Chicago for Rex Grossman as life is for Jake Plummer in Denver. However, they could be.

If Denver can pull the plug on a quarterback while in a playoff chase, why can’t the Bears do it as well?

The only difference would be that the Bears wouldn’t be going to a youngster like Denver is with Cutler. Lovie Smith’s choice over Grossman would be veteran journeymen Brian Griese. Thus, this move would be made to keep the Bears afloat in the Super Bowl chase.

Such a move will likely not happen unless Grossman completely blows up. But as he has shown in the Bears’ losses, Grossman is capable of looking awful. Still, he also has shown he can make plays and be effective. He has to be that guy against Minnesota on Sunday.

Grossman must show his coach, his teammates, and his city that he can bounce back. If not, Smith may have to make a move.

On the fence in Florida
The Dolphins are probably out of in the AFC playoff picture. Sure, we’re impressed by their four game winning streak and frankly are surprised it’s taken this long.

The playoffs were a realistic expectation, but at 5-6 with five games to go, the team is two games behind AFC West teams Denver and Kansas City, who are currently sitting at No. 5 and No. 6 in the playoff hunt. It may be too late for Miami.

It’ll definitely be too late for the Dolphins if they lose to visiting Jacksonville.

Making this more interesting is that it’s a must-win for the Jaguars as well. Actually, the Jaguars have more on the line because they actually have a legitimate chance win the race. The Dolphins are on life support.

At 6-5, Jacksonville has a legitimate chance to stay in the wild card race the rest of the season. But it has to start winning. This team blew it against the Bills. The Jaguars have been uneven and in consistent all season. They are a decent team, but they have to show they want it.

A loss in Miami would close the door on Jacksonville. So count this as an elimination game in South Florida. The loser is out.
