APGAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida running back DeShawn Wynn has a sprained right knee but still might play Saturday when the fifth-ranked Gators host No. 9 LSU.
Wynn, the team’s leading rusher with 354 yards and three touchdowns, injured his knee Saturday against Alabama. Tests Sunday revealed no damage, but coach Urban Meyer said Wynn would not practice Monday.
“There’s a chance he’ll play,” Meyer said. “It was sore, very sore. The one good thing is treatment will help it. Some injuries, like a high ankle sprain, treatment doesn’t necessarily help it, but treatment will help this.”
If Wynn can’t play, sophomore Kestahn Moore will start. The Gators also should have dynamic freshman Percy Harvin back.
Harvin, averaging more than 10 yards a carry and 18 yards a reception, suffered a high ankle sprain Sept. 16 against Tennessee and has played one play since.
“I’ve coached football for a long time and high ankle sprains are a bad deal,” Meyer said. “We knew last week he would be very limited, if at all. ... This week I’m understanding it should be pretty close to 100 percent. I’m 99 percent sure he’ll play this week.”
Miami coach Al Golden says the worst is behind him, but his headaches figure to continue now that former booster Nevin Shapiro, now in jail, says his involvement with the Hurricanes program will result in stiff penalties.
CFT: Jordan Jefferson makes it clear he wasn't happy with LSU's game plan in the Tigers' BCS Championship Game loss to Alabama.
